Full Bio

This rootsy singer songwriter has a voice like birds flying out of a canyon, gliding with incredible range, expression and depth, straight into the heart of her listeners. She takes the stage authentically on a no-holds-barred mission to honor truth without fear, beckoning others to join her and leave aside regret, come find redemption along the way.

Even with mad skills on the piano and a beautiful voice, Sarah didn't feel like a real musician until she starting writing her own songs.  When the songs finally came, demanding to be written, asking to be shared with anyone who needs them, she was ready.  Interweaving tales of human experience with humor, insight and unflinching vulnerability.

She might be new to songwriting, but she's been playing music and singing all her life.  She started classical piano lessons at age six, then at sixteen became the pianist in her father's church smack dab in the middle of Utah, in a town that had exactly zero stoplights, but many Mormons.  Consisting mostly of cowboys, coal miners and truck drivers and one homesteading, Baptist preacher's family, it was just a gas station on the map to the rest of the world, but her parents dedicated their lives to building a church there, steering lost souls from the brink of hell and raising five children sheltered from the modern world.

But Sarah's salvation wasn't found in religion, she stumbled upon it whilst tickling the ivories under the spell of Rachmoninoff and Chopin.  Or maybe it was the desert that saved her; the dry, dusty hills where she'd wander and wonder with her brother, and hatch survivalist plots just in case the deal with Jesus about the rapture fell through.  At twenty one she was highly trained in classical music and music theory but completely ignorant of popular music when it finally came into her life.  Her soul just ran away with the blues so she acquired Muddy Waters and B.B. King CDs, she found kinship with the folksingers, especially their protest songs, it was like she'd known Neil Young, Bob Dylan and Janis Joplin her whole life.  She began borrowing twenty CD's at a time from the library, in every genre they had, and soon, disappeared down a rabbit hole, purchasing a guitar so she could learn to sing and play like these new heroes, Etta James, Patty Griffin, Gillian Welch, Ben Harper, Tracy Chapman and so many more.

She still plays that guitar and carries out her search for truth under the beautiful skies of Colorado. The northern front range has been home for almost 20 years now and presently she's trying to work herself out of the job of full-time owner/operator of a small Nature-based preschool in Boulder so that she can become a full-time musician.  For now it is local gigs on the weekends and working on recording her very first album (release date Spring of 2014).

Sarah dreams about growing an edible forest on Apple Valley Road in Lyons someday and creating community there with the intention of forming a heart-centered, whole-person, Integrated Healing Center using therapies such as music, art, meditation, nutrition, massage, energy work, yoga, tai chi and more.  And it just might happen...she lives by the mantra "if you can dream it, you can do it."
